Reflecting on the journey of Branch & Blooms Co., it is incredible to see how a single idea born from a personal milestone can transform into a thriving business. As I prepare for another busy season, I wanted to take a moment to share the story of the item that first put us on the map: the First Day of School Sign.
A Milestone Inspiration
The idea didn’t come from a market research report or a trending hashtag. It came from my living room. Last year, as my oldest daughter was getting ready to start kindergarten, I wanted something special to document that big morning.
Drawing on my background as a former elementary school teacher, I designed a personalized, laser-engraved sign that captured all those precious “first day” details. I remember thinking, “Maybe a few other moms will like these, too.”
The “Bestseller” Whirlwind
To say I was surprised by the response would be an understatement. I had no idea what to expect, but the orders started pouring in. What I thought would be a small side project turned into a nonstop operation. I spent weeks customizing and personalizing signs for students across the country, working late into the night to ensure every board was perfect for those first-day photos.
It was exhausting, but seeing the photos of your little ones heading off to school with my signs made every hour worth it.
Full Circle Moments
I’m reminded of that first whirlwind today because we’ve hit another incredible milestone: our Teacher Appreciation Signs have become a new bestseller!
There is something so special about the fact that my most popular items are school-related. Having spent years in the classroom, I know how much those first-day memories mean to parents and how much a thoughtful gift means to a teacher. It feels like my two worlds—teaching and creating—have truly merged.
Lessons Learned: Preparing for the Fall
If last year taught me anything, it was the importance of preparation. Because I didn’t anticipate the volume of the first-day signs, I wasn’t fully prepared with supplies or materials. I was learning on the fly!
This year, I’m taking those lessons to heart. Even though it’s only May, I’m already looking ahead to the fall. In the next month or so, I’ll begin:
- Pre-printing boards to stay ahead of the rush.
- Stocking up on high-quality materials and hardware.
- Organizing my workspace for maximum efficiency.
My goal is to be fully prepared so that when the back-to-school season hits, I can focus entirely on the personalization and quality you expect from Branch & Blooms Co.
